Guest Book Reviews
We welcome book reviews that help Christians discern the value of a book before reading it. The primary question that I ask is:
Would other Christians consider reading this book? If so, how can I help our brothers and sisters in Christ determine whether a book is worth their time?
We welcome those who can help us accomplish this mission. If you wish to submit a book review for consideration, please adhere to the following guidelines.
1. Qualifying Books--Not every book will qualify for a review on this site. The following are typical of the kinds of books for which we will accept reviews:
- Christian Books--Any book on theology, apologetics, biblical studies, church history, Christian living, contemporary issues and the church, and so on.
- Fiction With Theological Themes--Novels that meaningfully explore Christian and theological themes (eg, The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, etc).
- Other Books With Theological Significance--Non-Christian books may be reviewed if they illustrate a theological principle or are significant for Christian thought. This may include books that are commonly discussed by Christians, even if written by a secular author.
2. Review Guidelines--Reviews submitted to Nazarene Caffeine should meet the guidelines below..
- Length--Reviews should be between 800 and 2,000 words in length. Exceptions may be made to this based on the strength, clarity, and quality of the book review submitted.
- Content--A strong book review submission should cover:
- Summary/Thesis--A good book review should articulate the main argument, theme, or thesis of the book in a clear and concise manner.
- Strengths/Weaknesses--A good book review should articulate what the book does well and what the book does poorly. What is the best aspect of the book? What is the worst?
- Theological Considerations--How does the book align or conflict with a Christian worldview? Does it accurately portray Jesus? Would a Christian grow spiritually from reading the book?
- Final Recommendation--Will Christians benefit from reading this book? If so, who will benefit the most? How will Christians benefit from this book?
3. Approval & Editing--All reviews are subject to final approval before being published. Minor edits to grammar and spelling may be performed as needed without prior notice. If more editing is needed, revisions may be requested before publication.
You may submit your book review for potential publication by doing the following:
1. Email your submission--Send your book review via email to nazarenecaffeine@gmail.com
2. Attach your review--Attach the review as a Google Doc or Word document
3. Use the subject line--In the subject line, put "Book Review Submission--[Book Title]"
